Mitchell Starc pulled West Indies apart before Glenn Maxwell scored an unbeaten half-century as Australia buried the tourists by nine wickets at the WACA ground on Friday.
Starc collected 5 for 20 and he was given able assistance from fellow quick Clint McKay, who returned the impressive figures of 3 for 10 from seven overs as the Windies capitulated for 70.Maxwell then went out and clipped an effortless 51 off 35 balls as Australia reached parity at the end of the ninth over.A quick single to Usman Khawaja (8 not out) put the hosts over the top to take a 1-0 series lead in just under three hours.Maxwell, in just his seventh appearance for Australia in the 50-over format, belted nine boundaries and two sixes on his way to his second international half-ton.He did not know he would be getting proceedings underway with the bat until late in West Indies' innings, but he took to it like a duck to water.
